General Information

MyLocalCulture provides an online platform through which local people in several predetermined countries can sign up and advertise cultural experiences for bookings, and through which the traveler can make such bookings. From the point at which the traveler makes a booking we act as an intermediary between the traveler and the host, transmitting the details of the booking to the relevant host and check availability.

One of our aims is to share local culture throughout the world. We want travelers to feel, taste and experience your culture. Whether you are an individual host, professional guide, cook or teacher, if you want to earn some money by doing what you love, you are welcome to sign up. 

Since our community is based on safety and trust, travelers tend to book your experience if they see who's behind the experience and what you are offering. Your profile is also your tool to promote your experience. By giving detailed information such as whereabouts, duration, availability and photos, you attract more attention from travelers. Remember, the better you promote yourself, the more interesting it will be for a traveler to book your cultural experience.


Earn money by sharing your beloved culture. With your unique ability, you can give travelers a memorable experience they'll never forget. 
Signing up is easy and for free. We provide you a platform to create a professional profile which you can manage easily.
MyLocalCulture creates more visibility for your business. Once signed up, we display your experience(s) and takes care of connecting you with travelers.
Get positive reviews. After an experience, travelers can give a review. Positive reviews lead to more bookings.

Before you sign up, we encourage you to consult local authorities whether you're authorized or prohibited to offer certain paid leisure activities for visitors in your country.
We also advise you to take the local taxes into account. As a host, you are solely responsible to adhere to your local policies and follow all applicable tax laws and regulations in your country.
Please make sure that you are insured in case something happens.

Since MyLocalCulture is an open marketplace, you will experience competition of similar providers. If you have totally no idea what to ask for your experience, we have the following tips:
Conduct market research: Check our website to get an idea what competitors are asking for their experience. You can also ask your family and friends what they are willing to pay for your local experience.
Calculate your total costs: In some cases you will have to make expenses for your local experience like buying ingredients, providing food, or paying for fuel. You want to cover your expenses and at the same time you want to be self-sufficient. With these 2 facts, you can calculate the minimum price.
Make a profit: Consider what a traveler is willing to pay for your experience. If you consider that your experience is unique, you can ask a little bit more.
Important: Convince yourself that you set a fair price to meet the expectations of travelers.


Your personal profile is your first chance to make travelers enthusiastic. By giving an honest and detailed description of yourself, travelers will get positive expectations.
You have the opportunity to contact travelers. Discuss topics about what you have to offer. This way you get an idea of the traveler and vice versa.


You can manage your profile at all times. You can make changes to your experience, which will be reviewed by us for approval.

Booking

You can login to your profile and go to 'My Bookings' to view your bookings. You will also receive an e-mail when a booking is done for you to confirm.


At 'My Bookings' on your profile page, you can see who has book your experience and find his or her e-mail address for contact.


After a booking request, you will have to confirm or reject the booking within 48 hours or else the booking will automatically be cancelled. If you do not confirm within 48 hours or reject the booking, any amounts collected by MyLocalCulture will be refunded to the traveler. No payments will be done to you as a host.


There is no booking fee for you as a local. MyLocalCulture only charges a fee to travelers of fifteen percent (15%). This fee is added to the price set by the host to determine the Total price. The prices you see on the website are the Total prices.


The date on which the request to cancel is received will determine the refund for travelers. For more info, please check the Terms & Conditions. In certain cases, you will receive a cancellation fee.


If you need to cancel an experience for any reason, you must contact the traveler and MyLocalCulture at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. as early as possible. Please note, in case you will cancel a booking, the traveler will get a 100% refund.


Travelers are asked to write a review after you hosted your cultural experience. When the experience is good, they will leave a positive review. This is solely done for your promotion on our website. Simply said, people tend to book something when the reviews are good. So it is up to you to give travelers a pleasant experience. 

Payment

Because not all of our payment methods are available in all countries, we give you 2 options:
1. Money transfer through PayPal. The payment will take place within 72 hours of when the traveler arrives at the relevant experience. 
2. Cash payment. The traveler pays in cash after the experience has taken place.
Payments will standard be done in U.S. Dollars. Please note, for any other currency payments, foreign currency processing costs may deduct from such payments.
Cash payments will always be done in local currency unless other options are indicated.

Yes, as a host you are solely responsible to adhere to your local policies and follow all applicable tax laws and regulations in your country.

First thing to say is that travelers will book your experience and just want to have a good time. We work with reviews and verification, but it doesn't mean that nothing can go wrong. Also see our Safety page.


Trust & reliability do not only apply for travelers but also for you as a host. We do our utmost to build a safe and trustworthy platform, but we need your effort as well. Travelers expect to meet the host behind the personal profile and booked especially you for that reason, so please do not let another person host your experience. In case you are experiencing problems or in case of an emergency and you can't host your experience, please let the traveler know in advance and contact us as soon as possible. MyLocalCulture aims to help travelers to find that wonderful experience that you can't find through guided tours and guide books. At the same time we try to support the local people and small businesses. Our mission is to connect travelers with local people so they can experience the real foreign culture.


We offer you a user-friendly booking system through which you can book local cultural experiences at hosts who give you an authentic taste of their lifes. We work with reliable partnerships which we verify in advance. Look through their profiles and reviews to find the experience that you're seeking for.


Our focus lies on all non-western countries. From time to time you'll see that we add new local cultural experiences.

Booking

When a booking is made, we transmit the booking to the relevant host and check availability. A reservation is only valid when confirmed by us through e-mail. Once the host has accepted your request for service and your payment has been processed, the booking is confirmed. Once your booking is confirmed by the relevant host, your booking is non-refundable, except as stated in the Cancellation Policy. We will send all details of the booking to you and the host. You can also review your bookings at your profile page.


We charge a fee to travelers of fifteen percent (15%) to cover administration costs. This fee ("Service Fee") is added to the price set by the host to determine the Total price. The prices you see on the website are the Total prices when booking, you will have to pay the full amount as stated on our website. No other additional fees are applied at payment.


You can contact the host through our website using a contact form that will send your message directly to the host. 


Please take a look at your booking confirmation and check if date and time of arrival are correct.
You should have all contact details with all possible ways to contact your host.
If all information is correct and you can't reach your host, please contact us as soon as possible.
In the worst case scenario we will refund you the full amount you paid to us.


You are asked to write a review after you've been to your experience. Reviews will help the website to become a more trustworthy environment and travelers can make the right decision.

When booking, please make sure you read carefully and check if the experience you want to book is for a person or a group.
To prevent disappointments, it is important to read carefully and look what's included in the price and what's not.

Payment & Refunds

You can pay by PayPal or Creditcard. In certain cases a certain amount has to be paid in cash directly to the host.


All payments will take place directly at booking. The Total price, less the Service Fee, will be paid to the host within 72 hours or when you arrive at the relevant experience. Payments will standard be done in U.S. Dollars. In case a local doesn't have access to PayPal, you will be asked to pay only the Service Fee beforehand and the remaining in cash to the host directly after the experience has taken place. Cash payments will always be done in local currency unless other options are indicated.


The date on which the request to cancel is received will determine the refund. For more info, please check our Terms and Conditions.


In some cases the host may cancel the experience due to weather or other circumstances. In case the host cancels the experience, as a traveler you will get a 100% refund.

Although most of our local hosts speak English, it may occur that the language skills of hosts can form a barrier. It may be inconvenient if a local doesn't understand what you are trying to explain. Please keep in mind it's part of the adventure. It's all part of your local cultural experience, so keep calm at all times.
When traveling, you will always encounter different kind of customs. Please avoid offending your hosts and try to get to know their culture, customs and general manners.


Giving a tip shows how grateful you are for the service granted to you. However, in some countries it is not customary to give a tip. So before you get to your destination, learn about general manners to avoid any kind of embarassment.
